Old School vs. New School - The Moroccan Rap Battle
2019
January 01
There wasn’t a major conflict between old and new generations of Moroccan rappers, but tensions grew when 7liwa did an interview with StreetArt. In the interview, he accused the older rapper Bigg of not supporting newcomers, even though Bigg has a well-known record label and a professional studio.
These comments struck a chord with other new rappers, leading to responses from veteran artists like Muslim and Caprice in different interviews. The situation escalated when Bigg released a diss track called “Generation TikTok.” In this trap song, which was a new style for him, Bigg criticized the new generation, saying their success was built on the work of older rappers.
Years later, the feud came back when Bigg released another trap track called “170kg,” targeting 7liwa, Dros, Komy, Ily, and other newer rappers. Many of these artists replied with their own diss tracks, but one stood out: “Al Moutanabi” by Dizzy Dros. This song broke records and became a national hit, capturing the attention of the whole country and making everyone excited for what would come next.
