Moroccan rap has undergone a remarkable evolution from the 1986 to 2025. It began in the early ’90s with pioneers like Shams Dinn, Double A, AlKayssar who introduced rap to Morocco’s vibrant music scene.
By the late ’90s and early 2000s, groups like Casa Crew, Fnaire, H-Kayne, Zanka Flow and solo artists such as Bigg, Muslim pushed the genre’s boundaries, blending global influences with local flavors.
The mid-2010s saw a resurgence with Dizzy Dros and collectives like Zawa City, and WDS, who brought fresh energy and a new wave of talent to the forefront, including artists like ElGrandeToto.
As the genre matured, Moroccan rap began attracting international attention, leading major labels like Universal Music Group and Sony Music Middle East to sign local artists. This global recognition was driven by the genre’s unique sound, characterized by its use of Darija and innovative beats.
By 2025, Moroccan rap stands as a thriving and influential force in the global music scene, marked by its rich history, evolving sound, and international success.
